Today we are opening Soverage Gateway to the public. This is the first component of a broader decentralized identity infrastructure we are building, and we wanted to share what it does, how it works, and where we are headed.
What is Gateway
Gateway is a verification portal. You connect your wallet, present a government-issued identity document, and our AI analyzes it in real-time: checking authenticity, performing liveness detection, and verifying you are a unique human being. The entire process takes under two minutes.
Once verified, you receive three things: a W3C Verifiable Credential, a Decentralized Identifier (DID) anchored on Hedera, and a soulbound NFT that serves as on-chain proof of personhood. Your document is processed in memory and immediately discarded. We store nothing.
What makes this different
Most identity verification today follows one of two patterns: centralized KYC providers that create massive databases of personal information, or hardware-dependent biometric systems that scan your body and store the results. Both approaches concentrate power and create single points of failure.
We chose a different path. No orbs. No iris scans. No biometric databases. Soverage verifies your personhood through document analysis and cryptographic proofs. The credentials you receive follow open standards (W3C, DIF) and work across any blockchain. You hold them in your wallet. Nobody else has a copy.
What Beta means
This is a beta release. The verification pipeline is functional and credentials are being issued on testnet. We are actively working on mainnet deployment, additional document support, and expanded wallet compatibility. Early users help us refine the experience and identify edge cases we cannot anticipate in isolation.
During beta, individual verification is free. We will maintain a free tier for individuals once we move to production. Revenue comes from businesses and platforms that integrate our verification APIs.
What comes next
Gateway is the entry point. Behind it, we are building the infrastructure for a complete self-sovereign identity stack: selective disclosure through zero-knowledge proofs, cross-chain credential portability, attestation layers, and developer tools that make integration straightforward.
