Everything you need to know about Soverage, verification, and your credentials.
General
Soverage is a privacy-first decentralized identity verification platform that proves you're human without revealing who you are. We verify your personhood, then issue cryptographic credentials you fully own. No personal data is stored, ever.
Traditional KYC collects and stores your personal information indefinitely (name, address, document copies, photos), creating honeypots for data breaches. Soverage takes a privacy-first approach: we verify in real-time and immediately discard all personal data. You receive cryptographic proof of your humanity without anyone retaining your identity documents.
Most decentralized identity projects still concentrate trust somewhere: some require proprietary hardware or centralized biometric databases, others depend on social graphs that can be gamed, and many issue credentials in non-standard formats that lock you into their ecosystem.
Soverage takes a different approach. We practice zero data retention — no biometrics, no personal data, not even hashed copies are kept after verification. We use W3C open standards (DIDs and Verifiable Credentials) so your identity is portable and interoperable, not tied to any single platform. And our multi-attestation scoring combines independent verification signals rather than relying on a single binary check, giving you a stronger, more nuanced proof of personhood.
Yes, Soverage Gateway is free to use.
Verification
We accept government-issued identity documents including passports, national ID cards, and driver's licenses from most countries. Our AI analyzes document authenticity and performs liveness detection.
Most verifications complete in under 2 minutes. You'll receive your on-chain credentials immediately after successful verification.
Your document is processed in real-time and immediately discarded. We never store images, personal data, or any information that could identify you. Only a cryptographic proof of your humanity is retained.
Each person can only be verified once to prevent sybil attacks. Your credentials are non-transferable and bound to your wallet address.
Your personhood score (0-100) reflects how strong your proof of unique human identity is. It is built from multiple independent factors: KYC document verification forms the base, and additional attestations (email, phone, device, Google account) each add independent signals that strengthen the score. The more attestations you complete, the stronger your identity proof becomes.
Soverage supports multiple attestation types, each adding an independent signal to your identity proof. New attestation types may be added over time.
- • KYC Verification: AI-powered document analysis that verifies you're a real person with a valid ID. No data is stored.
- • Email Verification: Confirms ownership of an email address via a one-time code. Only a commitment hash is stored.
- • Phone Verification: Confirms ownership of a phone number via SMS. Only a commitment hash is stored.
- • Device Attestation (Passkey): Uses WebAuthn to prove you control a physical authenticator device (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello, security keys). Your biometric data never leaves your device.
- • Google Verification: Proves ownership of a Google account without storing your credentials.
Document verification alone is not enough to build a strong identity profile. The system requires at least two attestations (KYC plus one additional factor like email, phone, or device) before issuing portable proofs. This ensures that your identity is backed by multiple independent signals, making it more credible to verifiers and more resistant to sybil attacks.
Credentials
Upon completing verification, you receive three things. A Decentralized Identifier (DID) is created and anchored on-chain, serving as the permanent foundation for your identity. A Verifiable Credential (VC), a W3C-standard cryptographically signed certificate, is then issued and linked to your DID. A Personhood NFT, a soulbound token proving your humanity, is also linked to your DID and lives on-chain permanently.
A Decentralized Identifier is a globally unique identifier that you own and control, with no central authority that can revoke or modify it. DIDs are a W3C standard for self-sovereign identity. Your Soverage DID is created on the Hedera network and serves as the anchor for your Verifiable Credentials. Unlike traditional usernames or email addresses, your DID cannot be taken away, censored, or reassigned.
A Verifiable Credential is a W3C-standard digital certificate proving you have been verified as human. It is cryptographically signed and linked to your DID, so any compatible system can verify it without contacting Soverage. Think of it as a tamper-proof digital certificate that you fully own and can share selectively.
Your credentials prove you are a unique human across the decentralized web. Use them for sybil-resistant airdrops, fair DAO governance, gated communities, reputation systems, and any application requiring proof of personhood.
Your Verifiable Credential and Personhood NFT capture your score at the time of issuance. If you complete additional attestations afterward, your live score on the shareable verification link will update, but the on-chain proofs will reflect the score at issuance. Re-issuance of credentials to reflect updated scores is planned for a future update.
Your Personhood NFT is soulbound, meaning it cannot be transferred or sold. This ensures one person, one identity.
Share your verification link to prove your identity to anyone. Present your Verifiable Credential via QR code to compatible wallets (OID4VCI). Reference your NFT token ID for on-chain verification in DApps. Participate in DAO governance with proof of unique personhood.
You can initiate a recovery process through the Gateway, which requires re-verification to prove your identity. This will revoke credentials from the old wallet and issue new ones to the new wallet address.
Privacy & Security
Soverage is built on a privacy-first architecture. We never store your personal data: not your documents, not your name, not your photo. Your identity is verified in real-time, a cryptographic commitment is generated, and the source data is immediately discarded. You hold all your credentials locally. We can't access, revoke, or share your identity because we simply don't have it.
Zero-knowledge proofs allow us to verify statements about your identity without revealing the underlying data. For example, proving you're over 18 without knowing your actual birthdate. Soverage uses cryptographic commitments as the foundation for selective disclosure, with full zero-knowledge proof support coming soon.
Nowhere. We practice zero data retention. Your documents are processed in memory, verified in real-time, and immediately purged. Only your cryptographic credentials exist on-chain. All personal data (DID keys, credentials, attestation records) is stored locally in your browser, under your control.
No. We don't have your identity to share. Your credentials prove personhood, not identity. There's no central database, no stored documents, and no way to reverse-engineer who you are.
Soverage currently uses Hedera Hashgraph for DIDs and credential anchoring due to its speed, low cost, and energy efficiency. The platform is multi-chain by design, with support for additional chains coming.
Your local data (DID keys, credential, attestation records) will be removed. However, your on-chain attestations and NFT remain on the ledger and can be restored by reconnecting your wallet.
For Developers
You can verify users via signed verification links (HMAC-validated), W3C Verifiable Credentials (OID4VCI), or on-chain NFT lookup. All methods return standardized proof of personhood. Check our developer documentation for integration guides, API details, and custom integration options.
Three methods are available: (1) Signed verification links, where you share an HMAC-signed URL that verifiers can validate server-side. (2) Verifiable Presentations, where users present W3C-standard credentials via the OID4VP protocol. (3) On-chain NFT lookup, where you query the ledger to check if a wallet holds a Soverage Personhood NFT. Check our developer documentation for implementation details.
A test environment for the API is available for early access. Contact us to get started.
